I am having plan to move from 2010 to 2016. I need to move to 2013 anyway. But what would be the alternate for 2010 fab 40 sites?

Your option is to perform a Content Migration only for those particular sites (or export the content, import on a new destination site). You'll need to delete the sites prior to upgrading to SharePoint 2013. You must upgrade all sites to v15 mode in SharePoint 2013 prior to upgrading to 2016.
