We are having a hybrid search setup where the documents are stored in the SharePoint online sites and search is configured on the on-premises SharePoint 2013 environment.

The search site gets search results from the SharePoint online libraries.

The search results show the OWA preview for the documents. For users who have the 'read' access on the source library (from which the results appear), the OWA preview shows 'Edit' link at the bottom of the preview.

In my SharePoint 2013 OWA environment, there is also Edit option in the drop down list, but it will attempt authentication when I click Edit. Besides, there is no edit document option when I click Open in browser.
