Error - "An unexpected error has occurred" when trying to create a SP list from Excel spreadsheet. Spreadsheet has nothing special about it (no macros, merged fields etc) just the error message which has as much use a the proverbial chocolate teapot!

SharePoint logs might have a better info that "unexpected error" you posted here. Anyhow, make sure your fields doesn't have any special characters which are not allowed in SharePoint. here is a good guidance on how to create list from spreadsheet:
