Question : I want to add few more column values for instance start date to the workflow tasks list, by default SharePoint designer workflow Action "Start the Task Process" provide the columns Related items,Due Date . . . . along with these existing columns i want to add start date also from the list item.

I have tried adding another action "Update list item" to update start date next to "Start the Task Process" action but no luck because the workflow will wait for the approval and i want start date to be updated before the approval.

When you use "Start a task process", there is no way to do operations in the approval process.
