Attempting to manually apply the update because it does the same thing through Windows Update (3.5 SP 1 + Family Upgrade).

I may not be interested in an answer from Microsoft so much as I that I would just like anyone else who is reading this right now to sign in and comment if it's happening to you too (misery loves company).  =)

because when I first installed, I did turn off my driver signing in an attempt to run an old Creative driver for my sound card.  Never did work anyways so I've turned driver signing back on, removed the old driver, disabled the device, and still... no joy.  I'll try a reboot right now and see if that helps, and then come back here and bookmark this link.

Same here. I have tried to install this update for over a week. I was able to Google some fixes, but to no avail.

I tried deleting/clearing the cache, uninstalling various updates, scan/fix disk, fix Vista, installation with/without internet connection, etc.

It would be nice if I could get .NET 3.0 SP1 to install; annoying and lame. I had nothing but good things to say about the less-than-lauded Vista x64, but the sudden lackluster performance is showing me its true colors.
