It still supports it but you should be aware that for new apps you might be better off using UCMA 2.0 if you can.
There are some undocumented breaking changes, the documentation has not been updated for R2, in addition the R2 version enforces schema validation (although the xsd is not published and did I mention the documentation is incorrect). Th samples dont work because of the schema validation.
In the next release it is to be expected that this api will be retired and replaced with some real web sevices interface.
