Is there a way to use the Expression Encoder UI controls in an application?  Like embedding their player, adding markers, allowing a user to edit video using their slider controls, etc...In my application, I want to be able to allow a user to play the video (so they can see what they want to edit/encode) add markers and edit/crop that video file down, based on where the markers are.  I know how to do all of this in code, but I want to be able to use their UI controls, for aesthetics.

This may seem like a dumb question, but I haven't been able to determine this via their SDK.

The Encoder SDK is an UI-less API only. We have a publish and template plugin model to interact with our UI, but other than that, you will likely have to write your own preview and crop solution.
