I am downloading TFS 2017.1 from http://my.visualstudio.com using my MSDN account , bug I notice that there is no product key required, and the installation doesn't required product key too.

I know TFS 2017.1 is a full release, not a patch. This means everyone can setup TFS when he get the installer ISO.  I remember early versions required product key during the installation.

Can anyone explain why no key required?

Hi DanZhang,

In earlier versions, TFS included code which required a valid product key to be present in order for the server to start up.Since TFS 2015.2, TFS no longer distinguish the versions in this way, so TFS 2017 doesn't need a product key.

Everyone could install TFS, it have a 90  trial days.

To use TFS 2017 beyond trial, you need to buy monthly access for each member. For more information about this, please refer to this link:
