I've always used design time includes of unordered lists for my menus but recently started using includes for all kinds of things, and was thrilled to find that Expression Web 3 now has an "include page" button on the standard toolbar. My includes always had two statements, each enclosed in angle brackets. But I've noticed that the "include page" button doesn't insert the second half of the statement, i.e. <!--webbot bot="include" endspan-->.

The second half of the statement, as well as what is actually in the included file, is on the page, but not what EW shows you in Code View. 

What EW shows you in Code View is the single line instruction to do the include.  What EW actually puts on the page, and what gets sent to the browser, is the full include: the starting and stopping include comments with the actual included content inside them.

Open an EW page with a design time incude in Notepad, for example, and you'll see that this is actually on the page.

EW doesn't show the expanded include in Code View because - well, you're not supposed to touch it there.  You edit the include in the include file itself.
