Our SharePoint 2010 site has this issue with its document libraries.  Every time a library receives an incoming email, more often than not, multiple copies of the email are received, causing many unneeded duplicates.  Sometimes no dup, sometimes 2, sometimes 6 or more. It make no difference if the library's version settings are configured to allow major only, major/minor copies or no versioning at all (i.e. disabled.)

Duplicates all appear to have the same date/timestamps.  Titles for subsequent copies all have random 4-digit numbers appended to them.  I am only a mid-level site admin and while I can certainly delete the duplicates by hand, I really need to discover the root cause and to provide a solution for either the MS Exchange administrators or our master SharePoint site admin.

Please make sure that the logon account for the SharePoint Timer service has the Modify permission on the e-mail drop folder.
