I try to setup MS Search Server 2008 Express. The setup program works perfect, but the "SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard" fails during step 5 with the error:
"Failed to register SharePoint services.
An exeption of type System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException was thrown. Additional exeption information: Object already exists."

In another question in this forum I found a possible solution to execute the following command and to restart the wizzard:
stsadm -o spsearch -action stop
This gives the answer:
"A search service instance could not be found on server XYZ in the farm."
=> After restarting the wizzard, it still stops at the same step with the same error.

Then I tried to create a new database with:
psconfig -cmd configdb -create -database <whatever_unique_name>

=> Same error at the same step.
