We have two SharePoint farms, a primary one and a DR one. We've recently restored our service applications to the DR farm and are having issues with the user profile service. We also have a test environment with roughly the same topology and configuration.

We are using AD Import to sync Active Directory accounts instead of using the FIM Synchronization service.

On the restored service application, the import does not seem to be working and updating with changes to user profiles.  The profiles and properties are all there though the and people search functionality works fine (albeit with some outdated details). When trying to update the credentials in the Synchronization we get an error:

Failed to decrypt connection password for ConnectionForectName 'domainName', ConnectionUserName 'domain\upssyncaccount'.  Please refresh connection credentials.

The credentials are correct as after entering the password the containers populate OK.

Getting the same issue on both our test environment and production.

I'm also getting the same result whether I backup and restore using our Backup software CommVault or doing a PowerShell backup and restore to a new configuration.
