We have a problem with number of columns in one single list - now we have ~400 columns.
Unfortunatelly we are using JSLink with a lot of custom JS logic and additionally we have a lot of ContentTypes related with that single list.
We wouldn't like to re-design solution architecture right now but extend the huge list.
We are thinking about new list (helper list) for these additional set of fields and connect them via lookup field.

as per SharePoint 2013 standards, you can have only 12 lookup columns in a list and if you exceed this then there will be performance issues. Can we know what are the types of columns ~400 columns you have? Is it exceeding 8000 bytes according to column limits here?
