I am trying to make a slider for my announcement list and I am having the worst time with out. I have tried to use samples from the internet but they never work properly and some are not the style I need on this site. I have no images with the announcements but I do have an image that I would like to be the background of it. I would like the two arrows on the sides and the information in the middle. I know this will take custom code, but I am not a very good coder. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

you can display the results you want as a slider in content Query Web part (CQWP) , i don't know which samples you were following before but i can say there are many excellent Jquery Slider samples you can use in your portal, also there are samples where you can follow to build everything using XSLT in CQWP , also there are free third-party JQuery slider you will just need to import the component files into the SharePoint and use it smoothly, let me please give you the Links which have samples as i mentioned above
