I am new to Sharepoint. I am going to create a workflow where a user is assigned a task which originates from a subsite. However, the user in question will not have access to the subsite. Will the task appear in the users task list in the parent site?

User's assigned tasks must have access to the task list where the task resides.  That's one of the requirements.  If the user doesn't have access to the task list then the workflow will fail.
