We were testing ASR a couple weeks ago and were able to setup replication using a storage account as the target (shown below, cant post links or images)

I tried setting this up on a live subscription on Friday as final testing before using in production

I imagine this works in a similar way during fail-over but looking at the pricing for managed disks this adds a massive overhead that no longer makes ASR a viable solution for us
