I successfully did a screen capture recording and then tried importing the result (which looked great in replay in the recorder) into Encoder but encoder 4 immediately crashes . This is the most recent bits I could get off Bizspark and it hard to believe this product is so flawed. I am running on Windows 7 64 and have .Net 4 installed.

John, if the capture is not too big, can you please kindly send a copy to [e-mail]?  If it's too big you can try record a smaller one and send it over to us so that we can look into it. 

Meanwhile, have you tried to open encoder and then import the .xesc file?  You can find the file at the output folder.  The output folder location can be known by opening the capture manager, which is the second button to the right on the main window.
