I have a site in SharePoint Online (Office 365), which will have an unset number of subsites below it. Each of these subsites has its own Tasks list, and I would love to be able to list a user's open tasks in the parent site.
I have done quite a bit of searching and have seen that this is not an uncommon scenario, so you would think Microsoft would have made this a lot easier by now....
It would be nice to be able to do this:
Have a 'source' list with columns:
- task name (with link to open the task, if that's possible).
- name of subsite it's in
- priority
- due date
- maybe Status
Set this list to show items in each of the Tasks lists in each of the subsites under the parent (as a reference, not a copy).
On page, show view of that list where AssignedTo = {User} and Completed = No. And map what task field goes to which list column.
For whatever reason it looks like it is not possible to set a list's data source as lists from subsites.
I have gone through adding a Content Search web part which gets the list I want, but it doesn't display like a table, and I can't show all the information I want to show. In the SharePoint Designer I find the Design Template .js files, so I tried creating my own custom one, but it gives me an error on the web part when I try to use it.
There must be a better way....

As Task list comes from different sub site , so to display the aggregated task list in parent site, Content Search Web Part is the good way to get task list data across site.
