I'm trying to calc the total SQFT of a house by using the "space" shape in Visio 2013. Each rectangle gives me the SQFT, but when i try to "join" them under the Developer tab it removes ALL text within the shape.

I'm sure there's several ways to go about this, so I'm looking for any help possible. Either a solution, or a better way to to it.

Hi Mnelson,

Did you mean Join option? And based on my test, Join button doesn't listed in Developer tab, and it need to be added into a custom group. So I am not sure I understand you in a right way. Could you please give the steps of how you joined the shapes.

And, when I Join the shapes, the text which I entered did not disappear, and just some text like "Office 123 sq.ft" disappear.

Try to double click in the shape, then it will show something like textbox for you to enter, type there then join the shapes, the text will still show after join.
