I created a new workflow in SharePoint Designer 2010 for a SharePoint 2010 list, nothing too complicated, basically just copies a new item into another list within the same site and sends an email. Everything is working correctly and the workflow is able to run without errors and produce the desired result.

At some point, not sure how long but <24 hours, the workflow will just disappear form the list. When I go to list settings >> workflow settings it says there are no workflows currently associated with the list.

I then open SharePoint Designer back up and see the workflows are still there... I click on publish... now when I go back to my list settings the workflow is listed along with all the pervious "versions" from where I keep repeating this publishing step.

Hi Brian- sounds like you're using system account to create the workflow. Recreate it using a different account as you cannot use system account for workflows.
